Potassium carbonate is a water-soluble salt that can be used to make high-alkaline solutions. Historically, before the invention of baking powder, it was used as a leavening agent in baking. Its uses today include in the production of soap, glass and in some Southeast Asian cuisines.

Other names: Carbonate of potash, Dipotassium carbonate, Sub-carbonate of potash, Pearl ash, Potash, Salt of tartar, Salt of wormwood.
